Procurement Integrated Enterprise Environment (PIEE)
The Department of Defense (DOD) created the Procurement Integrated Enterprise Environment to assist itself and its subagencies.
For someone to start using the PIEE system, they will need to be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM) and have received their Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) code.
Wide Area Workflow (WAWF)
One of the main reasons an organization will register in PIEE is to use Wide Area Workflow (WAWF). When a DOD agency awards a company, the WAWF clause is usually included in their contract.
WAWF was created as an electronic invoice, receipt, and acceptance program. It streamlines the payment process from the agency to the vendor and removes the need for a paper trail since it is all online.
Users are notified by email when there are changes or updates to an invoice and they will need to know how to make these changes and use the system to process what is required.
You can find the clause under DFARS 252.232-7006.
Supplier Performance Risk System (SPRS)
The Supplier Performance Risk System is used to assess and update vendors that are doing business with the DOD and its subagencies. One of the main ways this system is used is for assessments.
For risk assessments, SPRS assigns a value to your company based on specific criteria. It receives its information from various contracting sources and then analyzes this to provide a score. A vendor can submit a challenge to pieces of the score if they find something they disagree with.
The other assessment is for the NIST SP 800-1711. This area allows for you to have multiple examinations added, whether they are updates or reviews with different confidence levels based on who has performed them. Most of these will be Low, which means that this is self-generated and done by the company. This assessment comes with a clause that can be found within a contract. You can find it under DFARS 252.204-7020.
