Federal Insider Live Recap: Pitch Day and Jedi (4/26/19)

Every week on Federal Insider Live, USFCR Training Coordinator Anna Rose delivers your government briefing for the week. For the most recent sector developments, just watch the YouTube video below and check out the summary:

Pitch Day 2

In March, the Air Force hosted their first Pitch Day and now they’re planning for round two. So what is it?

Basically, it’s like the show “Shark Tank” but for federal contractors. For the first one, the Air Force posted their problems on the SBIR website. Then, startups were to submit their proposals and short pitch decks. After some reviewing, the most promising companies are invited to pitch the Air Force live. Here the winners were selected and paid same-day via credit card.

The Air Force is preparing for another pitch day in the fall of 2019. This time they will be focusing on space technology.

Signature Staffing

In the month of April, verified vendor Signature Staffing Inc. won two federal contracts. The first (and their first federal contract in general) was awarded on April 10, 2019. It was for temporary staffing for the US Geological Survey in Virginia. Then, on April 24, the small buisness won a contract worth $464,903 with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Texas. Located in Boston, Massachusetts, this staffing agency is serviced by Director of Special Services Christie Jackson and Team Captain/Senior Acquisition Specialist Marianne Swager.

JEDI Contract

JEDI stands for Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure. It is an estimated $10 billion dollar contract to manage the DoD’s information on the cloud. This valuable contract has left many tech giants going at eachother’s throats. That means protests being filed left and right. However, most recently a federal judge ruled that the contract shall not be awarded no sooner than July 19, 2019.
