Louisiana PTAC Office at Risk of Closing Due to Lack of Funding


Screen Shot 2013-09-12 at 1.01.56 PMAccording to the University of Louisiana, the LA Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) Lafayette office will be at risk of shutting down if $40,000 in matching funds is not raised by the end of their contract date on February 28th, 2014. In order for PTAC offices to remain open, each center must raise funds to which the federal government will match; hence matching funds. ULL of Lafayette has a foundation where individuals can donate to help the LA PTAC office continue to stay in business. PTAC offices are federally funded locations across the country that help businesses with government procurement needs. Third party registration firms are private industry businesses providing professional services, which include registering businesses in System for Award Management and qualifying them for small business federal set-asides. Kelly Ford, NW Louisiana PTAC Program Manager spoke with GovernmentContractingTips.com about the situation, stating, “The way our office funding works is through a matching process. The DLA through the DoD will match the current funds of our duel provider. Our duel provider is the Chamber of Commerce. The other duel provider for the Louisiana PTAC Lafayette is ULL (University of Louisiana Lafayette). I understand that ULL has been cutting funds and the last place they are going to cut the funding is from education departments associated with the university. That is why to my understanding they are having trouble coming up with funding for their department.” Mrs. Ford went on to comment about other available resources such as third party registration firms that register businesses in SAM for a nominal fee. “We tell clients they can use a third party registration firm if they have a lot of hang ups, multiple problems, or do not have the time to use our resources and register on their own. We can work with them for a full year and help a business, but there is only so much we can do. Businesses may want to use a third party registration firm if they don’t mind paying and don’t have the time or the knowledge to complete the registration themselves.”


PTAC and third party registration firms both have great resources for businesses interested in becoming involved with government contracting. If a business can make it into a PTAC office to learn about the process, they will learn firsthand all about the registration.
