In May 2012, the first phase of the System for Award Management (SAM) migration will take place. SAM aims to combine the multiple federal procurement related web portals into one easy, streamlined system to eliminate redundancies and prevent data conflicts.
While there has been no word yet whether vendors will need to take any specific steps ahead of time to prepare for the migration, now is the perfect time to start gathering and verifying your current login information so that when it is time to set up your SAM login, you do not run into any trouble.
When SAM launches, the first phase will incorporate CCR, FedReg, ORCA, EPLS. Users of those systems will be prompted to create a new SAM login. They will need to enter new data and verify their email address to activate their SAM account.
After setting up a new username and password for their SAM account and logging in, users will then have the opportunity to migrate their CCR and ORCA registration into SAM.
If the email address used to set up SAM is the same as their CCR email account, no other information will be required. Otherwise, they will need to provide the CCR account email address or possibly even their CCR username in order to migrate their CCR account.
ORCA accounts will not be automatically migrated; instead the user will need to follow additional, manual steps to be discussed in a later article.
