599 Small Businesses Awarded $10 Billion GSA Contract

Today the General Services Administration announced it has awarded 599 small businesses their place on the 8(a) Streamlined Technology Acquisition Resources for Services II Governmentwide Acquisition Contract.

STARS II gives agencies the ability to purchase up to $10 Billion in IT equipment and solutions through already negotiated, easy to use contracts.  The streamlined acquisition process is expected to shorten the time and cost of such acquisitions compared to typical procurement processes.

Despite the impressive sounding number of small businesses taking part in the GWAC, experts have criticized STARS II and expect that orders will ultimately end up going to the same large, aggressive companies that usually win such contracts.
