Top 3 Ways to Market Your Business in Government Contracting

GOVERNMENT CONTRACTING TIPS

Top 3 Ways to Market Your Business in Government Contracting

There is a lot of discussion about what are the best ways to market your business to the federal government in government contracting. Making sure your company is branded and branded properly is the best way to develop an emerging image of your company online and in the federal marketplace. These  5 strategies are proven to help develop brand awareness and get a business noticed by procurement officers and awarded hefty government contracts and set-asides.

1. Create a Government-Formatted Website

Providing a government-formatted that can by pass all the government firewalls andGOVERNMENT CONTRACTING TIPS spyware is one of the best ways to get noticed on search engines. Procurement officers use regular search engines like Google and Yahoo just like the private sector. However, they also have other resources and databases to pull their contractors from as well, I will get to that.  A government-formatted website is a way to showcase all the required information that a federal buyer needs to see in order to award your business the contract.  Providing information like your Capability Statement, Past Performances, a Vendor Profile, Testimonials, and Services that your business provides are all categories that should be on a website of this caliber. Gov Kinex is a business that builds government-formatted websites for small businesses that want to be above the curve and by pass all these firewalls to reach federal procurement officers involved in government contracting.

2. Capability Statement Distribution

Now if you are unaware a Capability Statement in short is a government registration that is Capabilities Statementdesigned for your business. It provides information like your goods and services, DUNS number, Cage code, North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes, contact information, which Federal Set-Asides your business qualifies for and most importantly a brief description of your business. Every business involved in government contracting should have a Capability Statement, period. But the best way to get it out is by sending it to procurement officers. It is very difficult to track down procurement officers around the nation and you can only track each one down one solicitation at a time if you are searching on FBO.gov.  That is why smart businesses choose government marketing services to conduct mass emailing to federal buyers to distribute their Capability Statement. US Federal Contractor Registration is the world’s largest third party registration firm and provides these types of services to businesses in government contracting. Also make your you are checking FBO.gov everyday for new bids and contracts that are available for your business. In a lot of these cases in government contracting the earlier bird gets the worm!

and last but certainly not least…

3. Register in Agency Procurement Databases

By now you should know that your business must be registered in System for Award Management (SAM) in order to become a registered government contractor. If not please FEMA Think Tankrefer to this link to learn about the procurement database and become registered. But aside from being registered in SAM there are specialized agency procurement databases that are completely free to sign up for and receive email bid notifications directly to your email just like for FBO.gov.

USA.gov, has a list of all the federal agencies in the United States and every second one of these agencies has to have at least one procurement officers to purchase materials from staples to spaceships. By tracking down some of the procurement databases that are related to these agencies you can have a closer watch on contracting opportunities as well as bidding advantages.  Agencies like the VA, NASA, GSA and the DoD all have their own procurement databases.

For example, the DoD (Department of Defense) has a online website called TechMatch to help their agency with procurement needs. The GSA also has a database called ITSS/MORRIS that businesses can register in to receive procurement opportunities available for their business. These are just two of multiple that are currently out there for your business.

By applying these 3 key marketing strategies your business will start to grow as a seasoned vendor in government contracting.

GSA’s OASIS Program Will Create New Uncapped Contracting Opportunities for Small Businesses

US FEDERAL CONTRACTOR REGISTRATIONHow does a government contract with uncapped earning potential sound? Almost sounds too good to be true right! Well it is on its way to becoming a reality. The General Services Administration’s (GSA) One Acquisition for Integrated Services program, or better known as OASIS has just released two draft requests for both a large business version and a small business version of the OASIS program. The small business OASIS program is designed to attract new businesses into it’s selected programs. The GSA selection process will search for a businesses past performance, certifications, system capabilities, and key experience in their field. US Federal Contractor Registration, the world’s largest third party registration firm develops government formatted websites, as well as business Capability Statements that contain all of the required information that is needed to be selected for an OASIS contract. US Federal Contractor Registration can market a business’s Capability Statement and Website by sending it directly to federal procurement officers across the nation. This specialized service will help prepare businesses for the release of the OASIS program and show their eligibility. However, every business must be registered in System for Award Management (SAM) in order to be eligible for government contracts, grants, set-asides, and specialized procurement programs like the GSA Schedule and OASIS.

Once a business is selected on the program they have the opportunity to have an uncapped earning potential of an upwards of $5 to $6 billion on these annual contracts. The advantage of this concept for OASIS contracts is that it provides all of the same advantages as being on a GSA Schedule, but has uncapped earning potential and cost-reimbursement features. Full details of each of the OASIS programs are planned to be released this upcoming summer in 2013. According to a quote by Jim Ghiloni, Director of the GSA’s OASIS Program, “OASIS is an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract for professional services and will streamline the procurement process by vetting companies for agencies ahead of time, rather than evaluating dozens of bids, agencies could expect three to five OASIS vendors bidding for their business.” The OASIS program will select multiple businesses and instead of governmentwide bidding, it will only allow those selected businesses registered in the OASIS program to bid on these uncapped contracts.

Eric Knellinger, President of US Federal Contractor Registration stated, “This OASIS program is going to help both parties conduct business more effectively. Small businesses will get the contracts they deserve and the GSA will be able to regulate their spending for each contract. These uncapped contracts provide limitless potential and dollars for a small business involved. Small businesses must be registered in SAM in order to participate in the OASIS program. Small businesses that are not registered are missing out on millions of dollars that would just end up going to big business if they are not involved. If small business doesn’t stand up then large businesses will continue to take these contracts. The time to register in SAM for this OASIS program is right now, not in the summer when it is first released. Make sure your business is ready and prepared for the ribbon cutting of the GSA’s OASIS program and all the uncapped opportunity that comes with it. We here at US Federal Contractor Registration already provide the marketing and portfolio tools to get a business awarded government contracts and prepared for the release of the OASIS program. We want to make sure small businesses not only survive, but thrive in government contracting.”

CREATING A SAM ACCOUNT

According to SAM.gov, there are two types of SAM account. The first type is an Individual Account and the second is a System Account. Most businesses follow the instructions to register as an Individual Account.

As stated on the System for Award Management (SAM) transcript of the accounts apply the following features:

An Individual Account:

  • Contains your own personal
  • May stay with you even when your role in the organization or the permissions you need to do your job change.

Please note: Just because you have created the account and have all the primary information does not mean you have the ability to create or edit records. to do those types of tasks you must have roles. With an account, Federal Government employees can also request access to view personal data on your SAM account to search or extract information.

A system account:

*  Represents a particular information technology (IT) system.

*  Is primarily for systems which need to send data to SAM (such as a Federal Government contract writing system) or wish to automate the pull of the data through extracts or web

services.

*  Is useful if multiple users in your organization need to access the same extract or web service.

When creating an individual account, there is only a minimal amount of information that you must enter. NOTE: You must create a new username and password to access certain information in SAM. You cannot automatically log into SAM with the username and password you had in a legacy system. You need to create an account in SAM. While you can provide additional information, you are only required to enter:

  • Your first name
  • Your last name
  • Your personal or business email address
  • Country
  • Phone Number
  • Username
  • A password
  • A security question answer

Username: This unique identifier will be permanently associated with your SAM account. Once chosen, it may not be changed. SAM account usernames may never be reused, so once an account with a particular username is created, no other account may ever use that username, even if the account with that username is deactivated. The username must be a minimum of six characters and has a maximum of fifty characters. Please note that you can enter the following four special characters as part of the username: @ . _ -

An individual account and therefore a username, can move with you when you leave an

organization if you, or the organization you were originally associated with allows this (your access and roles will not transfer). It is for this reason that we recommend that you not use your email as your username. Your organization (particularly certain U.S. Federal Government entities) may impose certain guidelines regarding your selection of a username, such as the use of a prefix. Please refer to your internal processes to determine if this applies to you.

Password: Your password proves that you are who you say you are. Your user account password should never be shared with anyone else. Neither the SAM Help Desk nor the SAM Program Office will ever ask you for your password. If you should forget your individual account password, the system will allow you to reset it. Passwords must be changed periodically.

If you have an Individual Account your password will expire in 180 days

If you have an Individual Account with Federal Government Roles is will Expire in 90 days.

Your password must contain, at a minimum:

  • At least eight characters total (but no more than fifteen characters are allowed)
  • At least one number

*  At least one letter

*  At least one special character

New Government-formatted Website Package Designed for Procurement Smart Phones and Tablets

GOV KINEXPresident Abraham Lincoln once said, “The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.” So does our government’s program to better equip our federal workers whether it is in manufacturing, construction or technology. This past week, the Pentagon announced that the Department of Defense would now issue government approved iPhones and iPads to military and staff. The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has allowed the iOS 6 operating system due to it efficiency and reliability. According to the DISA, they have created a division called the Defense’s Mobility Device Management System. This system will be used to manage applications and cyber-security. The DISA intends to support about 100,000 mobile devices from multiple vendors.

US Federal Contractor Registration’s website development operation Gov Kinex has developed a new government-formatted website package that works hand and hand with this new policy. This website package will help vendors reach federal buyer’s smart phones and tablets for procurement opportunities. Gov Kinex’s innovative government-formatted website package is created to bypass government firewalls and spyware due to its specialized design features. Best of all, every Gov Kinex website is mobile ready for iPhone and iPad compatibility. This will make it so every government contractor can reach procurement officers on any available operating platform whether it is iOS or Android. This allows any business to market themselves directly to federal buyers.

The DISA exclaimed that Apple devices were a vital step towards creating a multi-vendors environment, which would allow the government to choose from a number of available mobile devices. Mark Orndorff, DISA Information Assurance Executive stated, “All of these pieces must be in place to allow secure use of commercial mobile devices on department networks.”Eric Knellinger, President of US Federal Contractor Registration and Creator of the Gov Kinex Division quoted, “Every business including ours must stay on top of the times, especially when it comes to technology. The new changes the government is implementing are extremely exciting to us. This will lead to an abundance of government contracts for contractors who stay up-to-date with advances in technology. We have invested millions of dollars in this new technology that allows contractors to connect with federal buyers. It is imperative that not just small businesses but all businesses that want to stay ahead of the curve have a government-formatted website.”

FEMA Ordered to Assist Disaster-Hit Areas from Oklahoma Tornado

GOVERNMENTCONTRACTINGTIPS.COMAccording to the Office of the Press Secretary, President Obama signed into effect a disaster declaration for the state of Oklahoma. The disaster declaration demanded federal aid for state and local recovery efforts to the areas affected by the Oklahoma tornado. The federal funding will be applied to the affected areas of Cleveland, Lincoln, McClain, Oklahoma, and Pottawatomie. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is currently conducting damage surveys that may require additional forms of assistance due to the devastation.   Contractors are needed to assist in the rebuilding of homes, schools and businesses.  Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano spoke with Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin and assured her that all available assistance will be given to her beloved state. By the orders of President Obama, FEMA is to stand ready and provide any and all aid in response to this natural disaster.

US Federal Contractor Registration is currently assisting businesses in their registration for System for Award Management (SAM). This registration is required for any businesses wishing to accept FEMA and any other government contractsEric Knellinger, President of US Federal Contractor Registration has sent a letter to Gov. Mary Fallin expressing their deepest condolences. As well as offering all the government registration aid they can provide to contractors that would like to help with the tornado relief efforts. This is not the first time US Federal Contractor Registration (USFCR)  has reached out to help in time of need. USFCR extended their hand to Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey during the Hurricane Sandy crisis this past October and in turn they registered hundreds of contractors to help in the relief effort.

US Federal Contractor Registration is urging small business owners that want to be involved with FEMA, to register for federal government contracts. Once registered, business’s can be a part of the no-bid style contracting process.  This no bid contracting style is made to speed up the efforts towards the damage done from the Oklahoma tornado. In order for your business to become registered for FEMA contracts and be eligible to pick up no bid contracts, businesses must become registered in the procurement database of System for Award Management (SAM).  US Federal Contractor Registration also strongly encourages vendors to implement an aggressive marketing campaign in addition to the basic registration requirements.

DoD’s Clause Logic Service (CLS) will Improve the Quality and Quantity of Government Contracts for Small Business

After much anticipation the Department of Defense (DoD) has finally released their much awaited web-service that will help refine and broaden procurement efficiency. The main objective for this new web interface is to allow provisions and clauses to DoD procurement documents. CLS is designed to increase communication between case managers and practitioners to improve organization between each department. Thus helping small businesses in government contracting better meet DoD procurement needs under this new system. Small businesses must be registered in the main procurement database called System for Award Management (SAM) in order to be eligible for government contracts and set-asides.US Federal Contractor Registration is the word’s largest third party registration firm that connects contractors with DoD procurement officers in order to win these available contracts. Thanks to the new CLS, contractors will now understand the policies and requirements involved in DoD government contracts GOVERNMENTCONTRACTINGTIPS.COMup for bid.

Even though the news is out on the Clause Logic Service (CLS) it does not take way from the fact that this system is brand new and practically still wrapped in cellophane. The Office of the Under Secretary of Defense has asked each agency within the DoD to implement a timeline for the use of this mandatory service in no more than 120 days. Plans will be submitted by each agency to the Deputy Director of DPAP/ Program Development and Implementation. DoD senior procurement executives decided that CLS was necessary to better the future of government contracting.

Rob Petyo, MH-60R/S Weapon System Manager of NAVAIR in Lakehurst, NJ quoted in a interview with Governmentcontractingtips.com stating, “Now that the DoD is improving more opportunities for small business contractors with CLS, now is the time to register your business in SAM using US Federal Contractor Registration (USFCR). As a procurement officer representing a division of the DoD I fully endorse and encourage businesses to have USFCR properly register their business in SAM. I have recommended numerous businesses to use USFCR in order to become properly registered and accept the bids that I have available. The best thing about USFCR is that not only do they register businesses in SAM, but they provide marketing programs like creating a business’s government-formatted website. These websites USFCR builds make it easier for us federal buyers to find registered contractors online. It is part of our process in the Naval supply center to make sure they are registered in SAM in order to be approved for these contracts. USFCR has always delivered great contractors to me and I will always recommend their valuable SAM registration service to any business.”
